1970 – 1972. Taylor Woodrow Construction Ltd. Southall
Employed as a Civil Engineer under Indentured Training. Working on viaduct construction, concrete production and design, temporary works design, construction planning, heavy reinforced concrete detailing and construction, pre-stressed and post- stressed concrete, pre-casting of heavy elements, Tower slip-forming, heavy lift planning and structural steel erection, radioactive drainage systems, marine works, power installations, plant erection, initially on the Midlands Links Motorway, and mainly on Heysham Nuclear Power Station, England.
1972-1974. ICOS (GB) Ltd, London.
Civil Engineer and Site Manager, heavy foundations and diaphragm wall construction, various sites in London, Times Building, Grays Inn Road, Harrow Reservoir, and head office on estimating and planning. Then ASCO base in Peterhead, Scotland, which involved marine works, dredging and reclamation, heavy quay wall construction, heavy lifting, rock drilling, grouting and bolting, rock anchoring, gunite spraying, concrete production and large area concrete pavement.
1974 – 1997 Kevin Oliphant Contractors, Kevin Oliphant Ltd
Formed and managed Kevin Oliphant Contractors in 1974, eventually incorporating to form the limited company, to work on the various projects in North East Scotland connected to the Oil and Gas industry and Power Station and pipeline construction, and Defence works, as well as utilities construction. Developed and expanded the business, carrying out works over a number of years on both contract and sub-contract basis on Peterhead Power Station, and St Fergus Gas Terminal for Total, British Gas, Shell Expro, and Mobil. Works for BP at the Cruden Bay terminal. Works on Ministry of Defence sites initially in Northeast Scotland, but expanding to cover the UK and the islands. Works for the Scottish Prison Service. Works on secure sites including Airports. Term Contractor for British Telecom in Scotland, term contractor for the Water and Sewerage authority, contractor to Hydro Electric. Term Contractor for the highway authority.
Works included heavy reinforced concrete works, concrete production, utility and pipeline construction and testing, general and specialist contracting, road construction and recycling, quarry operation, sand and aggregate production, telecom and cable TV installation in highways, sewer and water main installation, reservoir construction, marine works, radio mast construction, remote site construction using helicopter lifts. Petrochemical works including general and specialised construction, reinforced concrete, and concrete and asphalt pavement, structural steelwork, logistic support, storage and handling operations, heavy lifting, underground power, fire mains and pipeline installation.
Offshore related works include fabrication and construction of anchor moorings, and pipeline protection concrete mats. Airfield and Defence works include concrete pavement, and underground infrastructure works.
1996 – 2007 Questdevon Ltd
Director. Incorporated Questdevon Ltd to carry out specialist plant hire and civil engineering works. Concentrating on airfield works, concrete production, Windfarm construction and road milling and recycling operations, and general construction nationwide and works overseas, in Cyprus, UAE, Ireland and the Channel Islands. Clients include broadly the same spread as above
2000 – 2007 Airside Installations Ltd
Director. Incorporated Airside Installations Ltd specifically to carry out works on Airfields, in UK and Channel Islands, overseas, including South America and Caribbean. Works include infrastructure, pavement, electrical and utilities, runway and apron works, both directly for airport authorities and Defence agencies, and as subcontractor to other General Companies.
